Gov. Charlie Crist proclaimed October 30 as weatherization day. In observance, the Baker County office of the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency is holding a weatherization day event on Friday, Oct. 29 from 9 – noon at its Maclenny office (84 W. Lowder St.). Lera Nieves from Florida Power & Light will present tips on home energy conservation and Ace Hardware will be on site displaying various energy-efficient products. Baker County residents can get more information about NFCAA’s weatherization assistance program, which provides free energy improving repairs to homes of low-income homeowners meeting the 200% federal poverty guidelines.

Since Oct. 1, 2009, NFCAA has weatherized 410 homes in Baker, Duval, Flagler, Nassau and Putnam counties. Repairs average about $5,000 per single-family home and are completed by licensed and bonded area contractors. With more than $4.3 million in funding from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act,  NFCAA’s weatherization program can help more residents in need and supply area contractors with work.
