Share Dear Editor: I read with interest Commissioner James Croft’s proposal to save money by eliminating what commissioners get for travel and cell phones, saving about $9000 annually. I don’t have a problem with them getting this because it is used to do their jobs effectively. However, I agree with Commissioner Gordon Crews that more than $9000 a year can be saved by eliminating health insurance benefits. I don’t know what the county pays for it, but am willing to bet it’s over $1000 a month.
Why should the taxpayers of Baker County pay health insurance for someone in a part-time job? This is outrageous. How many people do you know who receive paid health insurance working part-time? John Bellovich of Macclenny |
