Alice Luta Poythress Kilgo, 87, of Macclenny died on November 11, 2012 at her residence with family by her side. She was born in Sumter County, AL on February 10, 1925 to the late Charles Poythress and Minnie Mitchell Poythress. Luta was raised in Baker County, and was the oldest continuous member of the First United Methodist Church of Macclenny. She graduated from Emory University School of Nursing in 1947 and worked at Emory University Hospital until early 1956. After a career break to raise children she worked at Northeast Florida State Hospital and retired after many years of dedicated service.Mrs. Kilgo enjoyed reading, sewing, playing cards and traveling. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Dr. Frank D. Kilgo and sisters Helen Vernon Brinson, Sarah Elizabeth Torode and Erin Moore Jones.
She is survived by children Alice (Roger) Oswald of Macclenny, Nancy Kilgo of Jacksonville, Kelly Kilgo (Edward) Boehm of Kathmandu, Nepal, F. Douglas Kilgo of Macclenny, Andrew M. (Shellie) Kilgo of Albany, GA and Allen D. Kilgo of Jacksonville; grandchildren Tyler and Travis Oswald, Jessalyn Kilgo (Jimmy) Morey, Andi Kilgo (Ray) Douglas, Kaitlyn, Madison and Taylor Kilgo, and Daniel, Joseph, and Benjamin Boehm; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law David H. Jones Sr.; sister-in-law India Hamby; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Kilgo will be held on Friday, November 16 at 11 am at her church with Pastor Tom Pope officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 15 from 6-8 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services in Macclenny.
