Share Fred Carter, 87, of Clay Hill died on Sunday, August 26, 2012. He was born December 27, 1924 to the late James and Ella Carter. Fred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Thelma Hatcher Carter; children Kathy Hardee (Wayne), Angie Parrish (David), Alicia Crawford and Faron Carter; sister Shirley Harris; brother D.J. Carter. Mr. Carter was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren, Karen Crawford (Josh), Steven Hardee (Heather), Jody Parrish (Alisa), Jason Chesser (Megan), Michael Hardee (Amanda), Justin Parrish (Carrie), Jennifer Higginbotham (Travis), and Jessica Hannah (Kyle), and 16 great-grandchildren.He was an Army veteran who served his country proudly in WWII, receiving three Bronze Service Stars as well as recognition as an expert rifleman. After the service, Mr. Carter was a logger in the area. After retiring, he spent his days farming and hunting. The funeral service was held on August 29 at 11 am at the First Baptist Church of Maxville with Bro. Charlie Hunt officiating. Interment followed in Long Branch Cemetery. Cedar Bay Funeral Home of Jacksonville was in charge of arrangements. |
