The Baker County Little League’s softball teams started play the evening of March 23 under cloudy skies following a brief opening ceremony, which was hastened by showers, at the twin fields on N. 6th St.

League officials said a prayer and introduced all sixteen teams in this year’s league before sponsor Larry Burkins of Burkins Chevrolet threw out the first pitch.

The league is divided into five age divisions ranging from 4-6 for pee wee and 13-16 for seniors.

They’ll play two, 12-game seasons through May 19 before all-star play begins. Games are held at the fields from 6 to 8 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.
