The Lady Wildcat basketball team won its way into the finals of the Bishop Snyder Christmas Tournament before losing to rival Baldwin 54-42. The Cats beat Bishop Snyder in the first round and Ed White in the semi-final game.
Chelsey Ruise had 20 points in the 48-40 win over the White Commanders to lead all scorers. Ruise had 9 points in the final period as BCHS outscored White 16-6 to secure the win.The game was close throughout the first half with both teams trading basket for basket. But White outscored BCHS 15-7 in the third to pull ahead. BCHS came roaring back however in the fourth to grab the win.
Ruise led all scorers with 20 and Marnae Gaskins had 13.
It was a different story in the final on December 21 as Baldwin used strong outside shooting to win by 12 points.
The Indians went up early 16-11 and steadily built on the lead. But BCHS came back late in the half and trailed by two points, 23-21, at intermission.
Baldwin continued to shoot the ball well and kept the Cats’ top scorer Chelsey Ruise in check. She hit 12 points, well below her average.
Ruise nonetheless led the Cats in scoring. Tiana Raysor had 11 and Shanice Paige 7 in the loss.
The girls travel to Forrest on January 10.
